Energize Your “Love to do” List! by Jane Birr
Jun 7th, 2012 | By Tony Stoltzfus | Category: Transformational Coaching - Guests Posts, [None]Who needs some energy? Well, I have good news! We can create some quite easily today and have fun in the process.
A common lament is “I don’t have time. I don’t have time. I don’t have time.” You know all the ways you are being pulled. A phone call here, a child needs this, a co-worker that, a tweet, Facebook, youth soccer, church, and oh yeah…my husband. It can be too much. Brownies anyone?
Let’s jump off the crazy train and infuse our lives with some much needed energy in the form of a “Love to Do” list.
Quick. Grab a pen and write down the Top 5 things that come to your mind that you love to do. Ready…go!
I came up with:
- Laughing
- Catching fish on sunny days with Tim
- Swimming with nieces Shannon and Emily
- Biking 20mph+ in the woods
- Reading my Bible outside-preferably on a beach or dock.
How about you? What did you come up with? How do you feel looking at your list?
Try this experiment.
Think about everything that pulls on your time for 30 seconds. Ready…go! Now 1-10 rank your energy. Ugh.
Now for the next 30 seconds, visualize living out your “Love to Do” list! Ready…go! Now rank your energy. Smiles and energy abound! An energy-shifter indeed!
What path are you on?
Think this through. Distractions pull us like a drunkards path. We stumble and bumble and usually end up where we started and get frustrated and eat or nag because our lives are going nowhere.
On the other hand, knowing what you value and choosing to take charge and live on purpose is like a running back blasting through the line for a touchdown. He knows where he is going, fights to get there and then everyone celebrates! It is such a better mood.
Action Step
My friend, choose to live on purpose this week. Infuse your life with energy. 1) Pick at least one item off your “Love to Do” list, 2)plan and make it happen and 3)note the effect on your life.
For me, I already can check off laughing because my friend Christine and I have a planned walk every Monday and always laugh our heads off! I have a call in to my friend Teresa to see if we can bike today or Thursday so I can go fast and fun (and hopefully not end up in the emergency room like a month ago!) This weekend Tim and I will go to the cottage and fish and probably laugh (I cast my minnow on to the back of his head last weekend…that was funny…at least I thought it was!) I will read my Bible on the dock and look for eagles and loons and get covered in peace and beauty. I know swimming with my nieces will happen in 2 weeks.
Energy just doesn’t happen. Life is busy. Drain happens. In case you haven’t noticed already, the crazy train is going to crash. Get off. Life is so short. Simplify.Choose to take a stand and live at least one of your”Love to Do!” items a week or however often you need it. Yes it takes work to plan it. You evaluate if it was worth it.
Have fun!
