Workship by Tanya SmithJul 8th, 2009 | By Tanya Smith | Category: Career Coaching
Worship is how we work as well as what we say and sing. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says:
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
There is no distinction as to how we should worship, when we worship, or even where – it simply says “WORSHIP”. Often, we think in terms of separate categories of our lives. Even coaches talk about the “wheel of life” and segment out career, relationships, finances, etc. But what we must realize is that in all of it, Christ is the center and if what God requires is our worship, this means in everything we are to praise Him.
There are certainly days when I feel like calling in sick, but then I am reminded that my job is a gift. It is a way for me not only to feed my family, but to impact others in a positive way, so that they can see the light of Christ in me and in the excellence I strive to achieve. My work is worship – it is in honor to Him.
I’ll never forget listening to a co-worker talk about how much she hated coming in to work. I asked her a simple question, “so why do it?”. She paused for some time and then said, “I don’t know anymore.” Remembering that your job is a reflection of all the facets of your life – your inner & outer turmoils and your joys, can be very eye-opening.
Just try it once – for the next 5 days affirm that your work is worship and let it change the way you view your situation.
