This is the first in a series of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Quick Tips…things you can do in 15 mins or less to improve your website.

SEO Quick Tip #1

Make sure your site is indexed in the search engines. To check in Google, MSN or Yahoo, type “site:yoursitename” without the quotes and you will see all the pages that are indexed. In Yahoo, you will also see a listing of incoming links.

I checked this out for a prospect who came to me because they weren’t getting any traffic. Sure enough, I found the site had been placed in a “don’t go there” zone. Yikes.

If you find your site has not been indexed, here are the addresses to submit your site to the three major search engines:

MSN http://beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx

Google http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

Yahoo http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit (requires registration with Yahoo)
