Social Media Help by Beth Cole

If you are befuddled by all the noise about social media tools like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Plaxo, etc., you’re not alone. I ran across this blog post titled The 13 Top Social Media Tools, Tips, and Techniques. I’m sharing it with you here because it uses the categories of *Network*, *Promote* and *Share* to help you choose which tools will help reach your online goals.

groupinbusinessattireFor those of you who have ventured into Twitterland, here’s a great article on when to “follow” back on Twitter. For some reason I like Twitter more than Facebook, Linked-In or posting to my blog. Maybe it’s because I don’t have to think very hard or long to write a post, or because I can scan my Tweet board at the end of the day and catch up real fast on current news, happenings and great links from my network. Or maybe just because it’s fun — people are funny. I do need a good laugh every now and again and Twitter has handed it to me.

A note on the time thing. Yes, Twitter and other social media tools can rob precious minutes from your day, so I set a timer for 30 minutes and do the social media round once a day. Read posts, make posts, answer questions, invite friends, then move on to the business at hand.

  1. I have a twiter account and I am totally lost. How does it benefit the coach or does it?

    Hey Denise, great question. One way to benefit from Twitter is to use the search tool to find people who are talking about your interests or area of expertise. Do you have a coaching specialty? If so, you could use Twitter search to find conversations and then listen (read). You might be able to answer questions or offer help. I wrote a longer post about this for my newsletter recently, I will try to post that here soon. Hope this helps 🙂
